This is a great healthy alternative to deep fried Nigerian buns. it’s filling, delicious and great as a healthy snack or breakfast biscuit. They taste amazingly delicious, very much like a cross between cookies, scones and fried buns.
white wholewheat flour is a great and healthy alternative to plain white flour, I spoke to the greatness of it on this recipe for whole wheat Nigerian meatpie.
Ingredients:
(Dry)
- 2.5 cups White Whole-wheat flour
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
- 1/4 cup Granulated Sugar or Honey
(Wet)
- 3 eggs
- 1/4 cup Water
- 1/4 cup Coconut oil or melted butter
Optional : Shredded coconut, dried or fresh fruit (handful)
Direction
- Preheat oven to 350f
- line an oven tray with parchment or foil paper and set aside
- In two separate bowls, combine the wet and dry ingredients
- Add in the wet mixture into the dry mixture a little at a time while mixing with your hand
- Divide the mixture into 14-16 mounds . Place on the lined oven tray and top with fruits if using
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until just brown. Try not to overcook the buns, they will harden as they cool.
Serve Warm with Fresh juice or Tea
I do fry my buns but it’s usually shapeless pls what could be the problem, and for the baked one can I use hot plate to bake.
I just made these today and it was nice. Although there was some “burning” period n it def spent over an hour in d oven but that cos my oven doesnt have a temp guide. But overall twas nice. Thnks for the inspiration
You are most welcome.. my suggestion for ovens without temperature guide is to start checking on it early enough.
You have no idea how much you inspire me. For some weird reason, I had no interest in cooking growing up. Anytime it was my turn to cook, I would bribe my Sister by telling her that i would clean and mop in her place. Lol. However, your blog has turned me into an excellent cook if i do say so myself. My Husband can hardly believe the transformation. Keep up the good work and thank you so much for inspiring me.
awwww I am happy to. happy cooking dear.
Welldone ma,pls can I use the normal Nigerian raw wheat that I bought and milled at the market? Thanks
If you milled it to powder form then yes.
